Employee Benefits

Eligible employees may elect to participate in medical, dental, optional group life and/or legal insurances, and health care and/or dependent care flexible spending accounts.

The enrollment eligibility period to make benefit elections for coverage is within the first 31 days of employment. No elections will be allowed after this date unless a qualifying event has occurred or during the next annual open enrollment period. Please fill out the following forms and return to the Benefits Department at the York County School Board Office within your eligibility period if you are electing coverage.

Additionally, the York County School Division is changing to a Calendar Year Plan Year beginning January 1, 2019. Cigna will be the health insurance carrier. Important Note: All eligible employees that wish to enroll in Health Insurance or maintain Health Insurance coverage will need to fill out and submit a Cigna enrollment form during Open Enrollment October 1 - 31, 2018 in order to have coverage January 1, 2019.

Please note that the close of business October 31, 2018 is the deadline for current employees to enroll, add or remove dependents, enroll or make changes to Health, Dental, and Legal Resources Insurance and Premium Conversion elections; and to enroll in Flexible Spending Accounts. No changes will be allowed after this date unless a qualifying event has occurred or until Open enrollment next year. Open enrollment is the one time of the year when you may change coverage from one plan to another, and add or remove dependents based simply on your needs or preferences.

No action on your part is required if you desire for your current dental benefit selections to continue; for those employees enrolled in DeltaCare you will be automatically moved to the Delta Dental PPO-EPO plan.

Employees that wish to participate in a Flexible Spending Account are required to fill out a new enrollment form for Health Care and/or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts elections.

All Full-Time Employees are automatically enrolled in the Virginia Retirement System, your provider for retirement, 457 Deferred Compensation, life insurance and optional group life insurance. Further information on your benefits with VRS can be obtained on the Virginia Retirement System website. Individual account information can be accessed through MyVRS by establishing a username and password.

In addition, employees may choose to participate in voluntary benefits such as retirement savings plans - tax-sheltered annuities and supplemental insurance plans through AFLAC. These enrollment elections can be made throughout the year.
